Bittu’s call for toll plaza closure a ‘publicity stunt’: Oppn

Ludhiana: A day after Ludhiana MP Ravneet Singh Bittu declared he would shut down Ladhowal toll plaza on March 8, he is under attack by opposition leaders, who are terming it as a ‘cheap publicity stunt’. Notably, Bittu has launched a campaign against the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), under which he would gherao NHAI’s Ladhowal toll plaza and shut it down, as the authority had failed to complete the pending work of the national highway in Ludhiana district.
Lashing out at Bittu, Lok Insaaf Party (LIP) supremo, MLA Simarjit Singh Bains, said: “This is nothing but mere politics by Bittu. Where was he for five years when the progress of the work done by NHAI was the same as it is now, and why did he not raise his voice then? Why has he suddenly woken up now, and is giving a call every other day for shutting down the toll plaza?”

According to Ahbaab Singh Grewal, state general secretary of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) as well as its spokesperson: “With just a few days left for the election code, Bittu has now swung into action to cover up his shortcomings of no work being done by him as an MP. He has now taken to such publicity stunts like writing letters to different departments to expedite pending works, or giving calls for ‘dharna’ against government departments. It would be better if instead of launching such protests and causing inconvenience to the public, he should make public the achievements of his tenure as an MP of Ludhiana.”
