MADURAI
The Madurai Bench of the Madras High Court on Wednesday vacated the stay on Tangedco’s recruitment of Assistant Engineers (Electrical and Civil). The stay was vacated after the court was informed that the question paper for the examination conducted by Anna University was not leaked as claimed earlier.
The court was informed that the allegation that the question paper had leaked and found its way into a Whatsapp group was false. Members of the group were those who had appeared for the examination on December 30, after which they discussed the questions in their group.
As per Anna University norms, the question paper was collected along with OMR answer sheet. So, the students recollected and put out the questions in the group for their reference. A candidate had reportedly compiled the questions discussed in the group, jotted them down in his diary and circulated them in Whatsapp.
The paper was not leaked as claimed by the petitioner. The questions put out on the group were not found to be verbatim. An inquiry was also conducted and it had been ascertained that no such leak had occurred, it was argued.
A Division Bench of Justices N. Kirubakaran and S. S. Sundar vacated the stay and allowed the recruitment process to go ahead. The court was hearing a writ miscellaneous petition to the original writ petition that sought a direction to vacate the stay.
The petition was filed by four candidates who had cleared the examination. The petition countered the original writ petition filed by M. Paranibharathy of Madurai who claimed that she was aggrieved by the question paper leak and sought the conduct of fresh examination.
