Victim wanted separation after learning about wife’s illicit affair

A man has been arrested for allegedly firing shots in the air to threaten his friend over filing for divorce, on Sunday night in Dwarka, the police said on Tuesday.

The victim had filed for divorce after finding out that his wife was having an illicit relationship with his friend, 42-year-old Rajesh Mann.

Called outside house

At 11 p.m., Mann went to the victim’s house and called him outside, stating that he wants to have a conversation about the divorce plea.

“The argument turned violent after which Mann pulled out a gun and fired two shots in the air to threaten him. He then fled the spot,” he said.

The victim who got married in 2005, came to know about his wife’s alleged relationship with Mann in 2018.

The accused was allegedly threatening the victim not to file for divorce for the past few months.

After the firing, the businessman immediately called the police and informed them about the incident. The accused was arrested within hours, the police said.

“When he was asked about the weapon of offence, he said he threw it near his apartment in Dwarka but the police team could not find it there. They asked the apartment’s security guard Ajay who denied any knowledge about the gun,” the officer said.

Weapon from guard

When CCTV footage was scanned, it indicated Ajay’s involvement who was then picked up for questioning.

“After sustained interrogation, the pistol was recovered from him. The guard was then arrested,” the officer said.
