The 2019-20 school academic calendar has been approved and envisages 203 working days.
A Quality Improvement Programme (QIP) meeting presided over by General Education Secretary A. Shajahan here on Tuesday approved the academic calendar. Schools will reopen on June 3. The 203 working days will include six Saturdays — August 17, 24, and 31, October 5, January 4, and February 22.
The school and higher secondary wings will have the same number of working days — 203. The six Saturdays will be open for the higher secondary wing too. The vocational higher secondary education section will have 226 working days.
Schools following the Muslim calendar will reopen on June 6. The sixth working day statistics will be collected on June 10.
Exams together
High school and higher secondary education (HSE) examinations will be held together from the first term in the coming academic year.
QIP meetings had recommended that the SSLC and higher secondary examinations be held together this year, but it was not implemented. The exams will be held in the morning from the coming session.
The first term examinations will begin on August 27 and second term on December 11. For classes 1 to 9, the annual examinations will begin on March 4, and the SSLC examinations on March 16.
The State school arts festival will be held from December 5 to 8. The festival has been trimmed to four days.
