The new GT R Roadster is captivating, but given that production will be capped at 750 units worldwide, it will also be a rare sighting.
With such a limited production run, only a handful of dealers will be given an example, so the best way to check it out in person is either by visiting the 2019 Geneva Motor Show, as AMG has it on display, or viewing it in our gallery from the Swiss event right below.

This Roadster has a matte blue look and contrasting black elements over a beige leather interior, but clients can choose between 14 different exterior colors. The highlight, and main difference from the Coupe, is the triple-layer fabric soft top that features an acoustic mat insert to reduce the noise and a magnesium/steel/aluminum structure to keep its weight low.
Like the fixed-top GT R, the Roadster utilizes the 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 that delivers 585 PS (577 hp / 430 kW) and 700 Nm (516 lb-ft) of torque. Both sprint to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 3.6 seconds, but the convertible has a slightly lower top speed of 317 km/h (197 mph), compared to the Coupe’s 318 km/h (198 mph).
Although its allure is the combination of performance, looks and open air motoring, features like rear-wheel steering, active aerodynamics and an electronically control limited-slip differential should help the GT R Roadster perform like a proper sports car.
There’s no word on pricing just yet, but it will be more expensive than its fixed-roof sibling the AMG GT R Coupe, which starts at €172,204.90 ($194,918) in Germany and $159,350 in the States.
