Vadodara: After the detection of crime branch (DCB) sleuths arrested a security guard posted at the State Bank of India’s insurance office along with nine others for gambling inside the office premises four days ago, the bank management said it is exploring legal options to initiate action against the security agency that had posted Alkesh Rana as guard for its Old Padra Road premises, six months ago.
In a statement the SBI General Insurance authorities said that along with the removal of the guard from its premises, the bank will not only increase the reach of CCTV on the premises but also commence background checks and verifications of all security guards posted in their premises. On Sunday, 10 residents of Navi Dharti locality of Nagarwada, including the guard, were nabbed for gambling during a raid conducted in the office premises. Rana had allegedly invited all the gamblers to assemble there. The other accused have been identified as Vikas Rana, Shravan Rana, Nikhil Rana, Chirag Rana, Rajendra Rana, Pravin Rana, Ashish Rana, Rakesh Rana and Vinu Thakor. Cops seized Rs 1.1 lakh in cash, 12 mobile phones and five two-wheelers from the spot.
According to police, gamblers had gathered on the office premises on five other occasions in the past too, all during public holidays, for which the office staff never noticed any illegal activities. The gamblers also selected a secluded corner that did not have CCTV cameras, and so, nobody got a hint about it,” the police said.
