Haryana: Congress urges governor to refuse nod to bill

CHANDIGARH: The Haryana Congress MLAs, led by former chief minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda, on Tuesday urged governor S N Arya to intervene and to not to give his assent to the Punjab Land Preservation Act (PLPA) Amendment Bill recently passed by the legislative assembly.

MLAs not only requested governor to reject the Bill as the constitutional head of the state but also demanded the high level probe to ascertain the circumstances which led to it being introduced in the assembly. The MLAs also sought dismissal of government.

"We have informed the governor as to how the PLPA Bill will have serious implications for Aravali and Shivalik ranges. Ask the implications from the people who formed a three and half kilometer long human chain to mark their protest after government had announced to bring this bill," said Hooda.

This was clearly multi-crore scam that too with an active involvement of senior bureaucrats, leaders and even CMO, Hooda alleged.

Interacting with mediapersons, Hooda refrained from attacking BJP over the issue of questions raised by senior Congress leader Digvijay Singh on air strikes by India into Pakistan. "There should not be any politics over the issue of action by defence forces. Entire country and Congressmen led by Rahul Gandhi stand by the nation. However, the government must answer the questions raised on international platforms," he said.

On last Tuesday, Haryana assembly had passed the PLPA Amendment Bill with the noise vote amid protest by the Congress and INLD MLAs. The Bill was however stayed by the Supreme Court.
