Minister calls for concerted efforts to complete projects on time

Effective coordination among various departments is necessary for the completion of the Smart City projects on time, Minister for Local Self Governments A.C. Moideen has said. He was speaking at the inauguration of the implementation of various works under the Smart City project of the city Corporation here on Tuesday.

“There have been initial delays. These delays to get clearances and sort out procedural issues are natural. The city Corporation has done well to win selection for the Smart City project through a campaign involving the public,” said the Minister.

Work inaugurated

He inaugurated the construction work on the open gyms, information kiosks and maintenance work on public toilets in the city. The Smart City website, www.smartcitytvm.in, was also launched.

Mayor V.K. Prashant presided over the function. P. Balakiran, CEO of Smart City Thiruvananthapuram Limited, said situational analysis reports of 32 of the 43 projects had been completed.

DPRs approved

Fifteen Detailed Project Reports (DPR) had been approved, while tenders had been issued for 10 projects.

One of the major projects would be the construction of smart roads at major areas in the city, including the Chala market and on Manaveeyam Veedhi.

The solar roofing of government buildings, including the Assembly building, is another project which will be launched in the near future.

An amount of ₹5 crore has been set aside for this.

Centralised waste plant

K. Muraleedharan, MLA, said that the ‘Delhi model’ of departments sitting together before the start of every project needed to be implemented here. He said the old pipes in the city needed to be replaced and that a centralised waste treatment plant should be implemented.
