THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The political climate in the state is favourable for the UDF to improve on its performance in the 2016 polls, AICC general secretary and former chief minister Oommen Chandy said on Wednesday.
While inaugurating a media workshop for volunteers selected for the KPCC's media cell here at the KPCC headquarters, Chandy said both Narendra Modi and Pinarayi Vijayan came to power making tall promises but they miserably failed in fulfilling them.
"They have been indulging in vote bank politics and people consider them as failed administrators. Modi came to power promising 10 crore jobs. But after GST rollout, thousands lost jobs in the country," said Chandy.
The Centre has miserably failed in checking the fuel price hike and it has led to price rise in the country. The BJP-led government did not act in bringing down fuel prices but instead, gave a free hand to oil companies, he said.
In Kerala, the CPM has been sponsoring political violence and the state witnessed a maximum number of political killings during the tenure of Pinarayi Vijayan government, he said. So, if people react to the governance of Modi and Vijayan, then UDF would reap the benefit, the former chief minister said.
Former KPCC president V M Sudheeran who also spoke at the media workshop said the handing over of the airports to the Adani group was the latest corrupt deal undertaken by the Modi government. The Modi government has been showering undue favours to corporates and only the rich have benefitted from the BJP rule at the Centre, he added.
"While the BJP has been killing people across the country after fomenting communal tensions, the CPM has been focusing on political killings in the state. The people of Kerala will react and it reflect in the Lok Sabha election," said Sudheeran.
K Muraleedharan, the campaign committee chairman, said the Pinarayi Vijayan government, which has been sitting idle for the past three years, has suddenly swung into action and has been busy inaugurating a slew of projects, keeping an eye on the polls.
