BENGALURU: The Karnataka high court has ordered notice to the state and central governments in a PIL seeking setting up of a Greenfield Airport in the coastal town of Bhatkal under the Udan scheme.
A division bench headed by acting chief justice L Narayana Swamy also ordered notice to Konkan Railway Corporation and the South Western railway as the petition has sought for an exclusive daily overnight train service from Madgaon to Bengaluru via Konkan railway line.
Sanjay Revankar, a social activist from Karwar, has claimed that the chief secretary of Karnataka has failed to forward the proposal submitted by him to the steering committee, ministry of civil aviation, seeking in-principle approval for developing a greenfield airport at Bhatkal under the PPP model.
He claimed that an airport at Bhatkal, which is known as ‘mini Dubai’ of Karnataka, will help in developing business opportunities apart from bringing it closer to several tourist spots like Jog Falls, Netrani island, Kollur Mookambika temple, Idagunji Ganapathi temple and Gokarna among others.
