Presence of Culux mosquitoes spreading Japan fever traced

A continuous vector density study is being carried out in the Kochi Corporation limits and other parts of the district by the Ernakulam District Vector Control Unit as part of controlling the outbreak of epidemics.

A survey carried out in this connection in 46 places within the corporation limits between February 25 and March 3 found the house index of eadis aedes mosquitoes to be 11 at St. Jude Road in Konthuruthy (division 56). The house index represents the percentage of houses in which aedes mosquitoes were found.

In places where the house index of these mosquitoes is less than one, there is little probability of an epidemic outbreak while the probability is higher where the index is more than 10.

A survey found that the Briteau index, indicating the number of sources of aedes mosquitoes out of the total households covered, was less than 10 in Ponekkara (division 35), Palarivattom (division 43), Karanakkodam (division 44), Kaloor North (division 67).

The probability of dengue outbreak is less if the index is less than 5 while there is some probability if it is between 5 and 50.

The presence of Culux mosquitoes spreading Japan fever was traced in Thrikkanaravattam Semetherimukku in division 69. The 10 Mosquito Hour Density (the number of Culux mosquitoes found in a place in 10 hours) was found to be 100 in Nasrath Corporation Colony (division 26) and Thevara Pandit Karuppana library (division 59). The probability of an epidemic is greater where the density is higher than 80.
