100 more seats under govt quota

Thiruvananthapuram: With the state government taking over the Pariyaram Medical College, 100 more MBBS seats will come under government quota from the present academic year. In addition to this, 60 BDS seats and 75 seats for postgraduate courses will be added to the government quota.

Health minister K K Shailaja said that the government would initiate admission proceedings to these seats as per the fees fixed by the government. The government has created 11 new posts, including that of principal, to begin the admission process for the ensuing academic year.


The ordinance to take over the Pariyaram Kerala State Cooperative Hospital and Centre for Advanced Medical Services was signed by the governor last week. Other allied institutions like medical college, dental college, academy of pharmaceutical sciences, college of nursing, school of nursing, cooperative hridyalaya, medical college public school and institute of paramedical science will also come under the state government.


The institution offers courses like post basic diploma in cardiothoracic nursing, BPharm, BSC Nursing, diploma courses in medical laboratory technology, radiological technology, cardio vascular technology, operation theatre technology, dialysis technology and diploma in General Nursing and Midwifery.


Shailaja said that the medical college hospital at Pariyaram would offer all government insurance schemes and treatment services, including free treatment for the poor, like other medical college hospitals.
