ZIRAKPUR: The residents welfare associations of Zirakpur have been asked by the police department to submit a list of tenants in their societies by next week for verification.
During a meeting held between the resident welfare societies and SHO Dalbir Singh a discussion took place that the residents were not giving information about the tenants to the police. This will make it difficult for the police to trace them.
Members of eight societies of Dhakoli assured the SHO that they would submit the list of tenants, whose verification had been done and another of those who were yet to be verified. Sources said that after dreaded gangster Ankit Badhu was killed in an encounter by Punjab Police at Peer Muchhalla near Zirakpur, the police had intensified tenant verification in the area.
After this incident residents had complained that the gangster used to visit a flat frequently at Dhakoli and this had exposed the lackadaisical attitude of the police, which had failed to get the tenant verification done. The beat staff, who are expected to personally know those residing in the area, also failed to gather information about the dreaded gangster.
Rajesh Pathania, president of Dasmesh Society, Zirakpur, said that during the meeting residents demanded an increase in patrolling of the police in the area, especially near the slums. He said that the issue concerning the residents was the presence of slum dwellers, owing to which they had demanded an increase in patrolling.
The SHO assured them that there would be patrolling in the area thrice a week to monitor the activities. He also visited the slum area located near the residential area of Dhakoli.
Sources said that police would continue to hold such meetings with the residents due to the upcoming Lok Sabha elections and wanted to keep an eye on the activities in the area.
