Former West Coast Eagles player Ben Cousins has pleaded not guilty over allegations he stalked and threatened to kill his ex-partner.

Cousins, 40, will stand trial in September, after he allegedly ignored a violence restraining order (VRO) taken out by his ex-partner Maylea Tinecheff.

Police said he was watching Ms Tinecheff's home and constantly sending her messages, calling her and visiting, ignoring the VRO that was in place months earlier.

Cousins allegedly threatened the mother of his children with a screwdriver after getting into her BMW in Burswood and telling her he 'can't wait to use it.'

He also allegedly told her: 'I'm going to kill you ... take your life, your freedom and the things you love the most.'

As well as threatening to bury her alive and then take their children to the spot 'where you will be able to hear them but not be able to get to them'.

Cousins pleaded not guilty to 14 offences in the Armadale Magistrate's Court on Tuesday. Twelve were breaching a violence restraining order, another was for aggravated stalking and the final for threatening to harm.

He appeared in court via video from Hakea prison, where he has been since his arrest in August.

Perth Now reported that Cousin's lawyer Michael Tudor could make a new bail application.

'This is the clearest I have seen him,' he said.

'He is the one who is approaching me about rehabilitation, but one of the problems we have is that his predicament at the moment precludes him from going to a lot of rehabilitation places.'
