IPS officers’ wives celebrate Women’s Day
Debjani Chakraborty | TNN | Mar 6, 2019, 05:06 ISTRanchi: At an event organised at the Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalaya, Khunti on Tuesday to commemorate International Women’s Day, the chairperson of National Commission for Women, Rekha Sharma, said, “Women should speak up and also teach their daughters to do so. When they tolerate violence at home, they normalize it. Ending violence against women is impossible unless we become vocal about our problems.” The event was organized by IPS Officers’ Wives’ Association (Ipsowa) of Jharkhand. Over 400 girls along with their mothers attended the programme.
Sharma added, “I heard that Ipsowa is planning to impart skill training to young girls. This is indeed a great initiative. However, it is also important that girls nowadays are given lessons in digital literacy.”
Ipsowa chairperson Poonam Pandey said: “We have adopted this school to empower girls here and provide them facilities that are otherwise available in private schools. We also want to highlight the issue of trafficking. It is a major problem in Jharkhand.” Pandey also stated that the skill training programme will begin from next session.
Chairperson of Jharkhand State Commission for Protection of Child Rights, Aarti Kujur, and Jharkhand women’s commission chairperson, Kalyani Sharan, were also present at the event.
