A 40-year-old man and his 7-year-old son died after the two-wheeler they were riding on had a head-on collision with a van on Vandavasi-Chetpet Road.

According to the police, Thangamani, his wife Lakshmi, 35, and son Ashvin, 7, were travelling on a bike towards Ponnur on Sunday afternoon, to attend a family function. When they reached Ponnur Reserve Forest area, Thangamani lost control of the vehicle and hit head on a van from Melmalayanur near Ginjee. All the three were rushed to Vandavasi Taluk Government Hospital for treatment.

While Ashvin died on the way to the hospital, Thangamani and Lakshmi were referred to Chengalpet Medical College Hospital. Thangamani died on Sunday night, while Lakshmi is said to be in a critical condition. Ponnur police have registered a case.
