Delhi student drowns in Hirakud Dam

SMABALPUR: A third-year MBBS student of Veer Surendra Sai Institute of Medical Sciences and Research (Vimsar), Burla, drowned at ‘fishing point’ along the Hirakud Dam reservoir, under the Burla PS, on Monday. The deceased, Sumit Singh (22), was a resident of Delhi.
Police said Singh had gone to the fishing point with five other students to bathe when he drowned. Fire brigade personnel rescued Singh and took him to Vimsar, where he was declared dead. Police said Singh’s family has been informed.
