Penrith's Tyrone May arrested in relation to NRL sex tape scandal
Tyrone May has been arrested and charged after allegedly filming and disseminating sexual acts with two women without their knowledge and consent.
Police will allege that the 22-year-old filmed sexual encounters with two women in February and May last year, without their knowledge.
While the sexual acts were consensual, neither of the women knew they were being filmed.
May then allegedly distributed the recordings without their consent.
Police say that the women became aware of the existence of the videos - one allegedly filmed in February 2018 in Coffs Harbour and the other allegedly filmed in Kingswood in May - in the last few days and contacted police.
On Tuesday morning, May handed himself in at Penrith Police station where he was charged with two counts of recording intimate image without consent, and two counts of disseminate image without consent.
He was granted conditional bail to appear in Penrith Local Court in May.
Penrith are aware of the charges but did not wish to make any official comment when contacted by the Herald.
It's understood May will deny the charges.
Under revenge porn laws established last August, the maximum jail sentence for such an offence is seven years.
Given the 11-year maximum sentence benchmark set by the NRL for a mandatory stand down, whether May is available for selection in round one is now in the hands of chief executive Todd Greenberg.
The NRL have made no official comment on the May arrest, though Greenberg will address media after the Channel Nine rugby league launch this afternoon.
