Pirates chase Sundowns with visit from Celtic

2019-03-05 09:01

Cape Town - Orlando Pirates will be targeting more of the same when they welcome Bloemfontein Celtic to Orlando Stadium for an Absa Premiership clash on Tuesday evening.

The Buccaneers recorded a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Steve Komphela's Golden Arrows at the weekend, with Justin Shonga netting what would turn out to be the winning goal in the 20th minute.

That result marked a second straight victory for Pirates, after defeats to SuperSport United in the Absa Premiership and ES Tunis in the CAF Champions League in their two previous fixtures.

Celtic, meanwhile, have enjoyed mixed fortunes of late, picking up five points from their last five league encounters. Their most recent result, a 0-0 draw with high-flying Sundowns last Saturday, extended their winless run to three games.

However, they will have to make do without the services of defender Wandisile Letlabika after he suffered a nasty concussion during the goalless draw with Mamelodi Sundowns last time out.

As a result, Letlabika is expected to be on the sidelines for the next two weeks as he continues his recovery.

After last Saturday's 0-0 draw with Sundowns, Celtic caretaker coach Lehlohonolo Seema admitted Tuesday's game would test his side's stamina.

He said: "We're happy with a point, a hard-fought point. I don't know if the guys will have anything left in the tank for Tuesday [versus Orlando Pirates]. We will have to do our homework."

And, speaking after his side's narrow victory over Arrows, Bucs boss Milutin Sredojevic felt his side should have scored more than the solitary goal they managed on the day.

"We created many chances in the second-half, we could have killed the game however, three points is three points, we shall look at this and prepare for our next game against Bloemfontein Celtic," he said.
