Prime Minister Narendra Modi will address a rally in Kilambakkam, Chennai, on March 6. Along with the BJP, AIADMK, PMK and other alliance parties leaders from the state are expected to share the dais with him and their cadres are likely to participate in the event. The Supreme Court will hear petitions seeking review of its judgment on the controversial Rafale deal today. In its December 14 judgment, the apex court had refused to order a probe into the deal of procuring 36 Rafale jets from France. On February 26, a bench of Chief Justice of India Ranjan Gogoi and Justice SS Kaul and Justice KM Joeseph agreed to hear in open court two petitions -- filed by former Union ministers Yashwant Sinha, Arun Shourie and advocate Prashant Bhushan, and Aam Aadmi Party MP Sanjay Sing -- seeking review of its judgment.
Facebook Vice-President Joel Kaplan (Global Public Policy) will appear before the Parliamentary Committee on Information Technology (IT) in New Delhi today to explain how what it is ensuring the safety of users across its platforms (Facebook, Whatsapp and Instagram). The Facebook officials' presentation will follow the appearance of Colin Crowell, Global Vice-President (Public Policy) of Twitter, before the Anurag Thakur-led panel on February 25. Crowell had spoken about how the microblogging site would help address issues like political bias and manipulation on its platform.
The National Company Law Appellate Tribunal (NCLAT) will hear Reliance Communications’ plea to proceed with insolvency process today. A two-member bench headed by Chairman Justice S J Mukhopadhaya adjourned the case on February 12 as a matter relating to the case was pending before the Supreme Court.
Top officials from the European Union and the US will meet to negotiate a EU-US trade deal on industrial goods and services today. EU Trade Commissioner Cecilia Malmstrom will meet US Trade Representative Robert Lighthizer on March 6 in Washington and the Secretary-General of the European Commission Martin Selmayr will meet the Director of the United States National Economic Council Larry Kudlow on March 7. They will also discuss issues relating to the existing and potential future US tariffs on these goods and services.
