VMC to recycle construction debris
TNN | Mar 6, 2019, 04:00 ISTVadodara: The Vadodara Municipal Corporation (VMC) will recycle construction waste generated in the city. The civic body has identified an agency that will collect construction waste in the city and process it.
The civic body was looking to recycle construction waste in line with the Construction and Demolition Waste Management Rules, 2016. It was trying to identify a contractor to do so since 2017, but was not successful as only one vendor submitted a bid for the project. After two attempts, the civic body decided to give the work to the only agency that came forward to take the work.
The civic body will be paying Rs 400 per metric tonne to the vendor for the first year to process construction waste that largely includes debris generated from demolition of structures. An escalation of five percent shall be provided in the subsequent years. The vendor will be making products like paver blocks and bricks from the waste. The VMC will be providing three acres of land at a rate of one rupee per square meter.tnn
