Three persons working in a pub here have been arrested for allegedly cloning ATM cards of customers to siphon off money from their accounts, the police said on Monday.
They were nabbed from Sector 32 on Sunday at 11.35 p.m. after the police received a tip-off on the movement of five men, who allegedly cloned ATM cards to steal money.
“On reaching the spot, two men managed to flee. We have recovered the device that they used for skimming ATM details from their possession,” said Pradeep Tripathi, SHO at Sector 24 police station.
The accused have been identified as Shubham Rawat from Chalera village, Kaushal Gupta from Ambedkar Nagar Basti, and Sumit Singh Bisht from Delhi’s Mandawali, the police said. Deepak and Sameer are said to be absconding.
The arrested men were employed as bartenders and waiters at Imperfecto Ruin Pub in Logix Mall in Noida.
₹30,000 per day
The accused, committing the crime for the past few months, used to earn around ₹30,000 per day. They allegedly cloned ATM cards of customers only on the weekends, the police said.
“The arrested men said they were paid by Deepak and Sameer, whom they had met in the pub. The duo gave the arrested men a cloning machine only for three days in a week [mostly on weekends] during when would clone ATM cards of the customers. For each cloned card, they would get ₹3,000 from the two absconding men,” said Mr. Tripathi.
The trio has been charged with various penal offences including cheating under Section 420 of the IPC and other offences under Information Technology Act.
Earlier, the police had nabbed one person from GIP mall for a similar offence.
