LUCKNOW: Two days after dacoits gunned down two men and injured two others at a jewellery store in a Krishnanagar market, police were yet to get a breakthrough.
ADG Lucknow zone Rajeev Krishna, however, claimed they had got some leads in the case and added that two teams were working on them. Krishnanagar police had released the CCTV footage of two suspects who had visited a shop adjacent to RK Jewellers, which was targeted by dacoits on Saturday night, a month ago. But it yielded no result as neither the workers of RK Jewellers nor eyewitness could identify them.
Police had also detained 10 persons, including a serving and a former employee of the shop for questioning, but failed to get any clue from them. Police also drew a blank while grilling 50 persons who had named in thefts in the past. Another angle being probed was the role of an insider in the case. But even that has been ruled out on the basis that dacoits had also done a recce of other shops near RK Jewellers.
Investigators also probed if there was any connection between the power cut in Krishnagar market and dacoity. Dacoits struck at 9.30pm, executed the crime within 70 seconds and fled under the cover of darkness as there was no electricity in the locality from 9.30pm to 9.45pm. Police said on Monday that it was merely a coincidence. Nothing has come out from surveillance of five gangs which police had zeroed in on.
Krishnanagar police claim that modus operandi of the gang was similar to those involved in bank robberies in Pratapgarh last year and in the ATM loot in Aliganj in 2015. The sleuths of the Special Task Force, who are assisting city police in the probe, said it seems a specialised gang was involved in it. “Details of the mobile phones used in the locality at the time of dacoity are also being scanned,” said an STF officer.
SSP Kalanidhi Naithani said five police teams have been formed to trace the dacoits. Police have also released two phone numbers — 9454401186 and 9454401495 — where people can share information about this case.
