1 dead, 1 hurt on Meenatai bridge that opened a day ago
Thane: In a shocking incident, a 22-year-old man lost his life and his friend sustained injuries when their bike slipped on the newly-inaugurated Meenatai bridge. The bridge was opened by Aditya Thackeray, the Yuva Sena president on Sunday. According to police, the bridge claimed its first casuality within 24 hours of its opening.
The incident took place between Gokul Nagar and Babubai petrol pump on Monday afternoon. Police said prima facie it seems the deceased lost control of his bike, which slipped and rammed into an electric pole, severely injuring the two.
The deceased, Jitendra Ashok Dhotre, 22, and the injured person, Prakash Shelke, 25, worked as labourer in a private firm. They resided in the Thane’s Naupada area. The deceased, Jitendra sustained severe head injuries. He, along with his friend Prakash, who was riding pillion, was on his way to work towards Khopat from Majiwada.
A senior police officer said, “A passerby informed police of the mishap. A team rushed to the spot and took his body to Thane Civil Hospital, where his post-mortem was conducted after which his body was handed over to the family. Prakash suffered leg and hand injuries and is undergoing treatment.” Rabodi police has registered an accidental death report (ADR).
