CHENNAI: The DMK on Tuesday allocated two seats to the CPM. DMK president M K Stalin and CPM state secretary K Balakrishnan signed a seat-sharing agreement at the DMK headquarters.

A CPM team held talks with the DMK seat-sharing committee on Monday. They could not strike an agreement as the CPM wanted either three Lok Sabha seats or two Lok Sabha elections and one seat in the Rajya Sabha elections to be held in July.

"Though there were several demands, our party meeting in the morning decided to accept the two seats the DMK has allocated. We are happy to have been given two seats, and we will work for the DMK alliance in all the 40 Lok Sabha in Tamil Nadu and Puducherry constituencies as well as in the 21 constituencies where byelections will be held," Balakrishnan told reporters after signing the agreement.

He also said his party would participate in the meetings convened by the Congress since it wants to defeat the BJP at the Centre and AIADMK in the state.
