Modi rode the city’s first metro train with with differently-abled schoolchildren from the AMC’s Umang Deaf and Dumb School. He later laid the foundation stone for Phase II of the Ahmedabad metro project, which will include two corridors (from Motera to Mahatma Mandir via Akshardham and from GNLU to Gift City) with a combined length of 28.2 km.
Phase II is estimated to cost Rs 5,384.17 crore. Phase II extends the northsouth corridor of Phase-I (from APMC to Motera)
Modi shared light moments the students. He asked them, in sign language, who was the most naughty of them and whether they mimic and make fun of each other. Gaurang Darji was the train pilot and Surbhi Patidar the co-pilot. After the ride Surbhi said, “It was a proud moment not only for me but for the entire staff of Gujarat Metro Rail Corporation, who were waiting to see the train make a passenger run.”
