NEW DELHI: Amid rising spot fares due to large number of flight cancellations by Jet and IndiGo for complete different reasons, the low cost carrier (LCC) has started a three-day sale across its network with all-inclusive domestic and international fares starting at Rs 899 and Rs 3,399, respectively.
The IndiGo sale is from Tuesday to Thursday (March 7) and is valid for travel between March 19 and September 28, 2019.
IndiGo chief commercial officer William Boulter said: "We are excited to announce a three-day festive sale across our network starting (Tuesday). It has been very encouraging to see a rise in the number of passengers flying during the holiday seasons and these special sales provide more options for customers to fly at affordable fares. We are hopeful that everyone will use this opportunity to make Holi more colourful for their loved ones."
Other airlines are also likely to come out with special fares on the occasion of Holi.
Jet has grounded almost 40 aircraft due to a severe paucity of funds and IndiGo has been facing a shortage of pilots due to which it cancelled 30 flights a day till this month-end. In other words, while IndiGo doesn’t have enough pilots for its big fleet of planes, Jet does not have enough operational planes for its pilots.
The combined effect is that over 100 flights are cancelled these days and that has pushed up spot fares. This month jet fuel price was hiked by 9 per cent, adding to the operating cost of the already stressed Indian carriers.
