If you’ve been following former F1 world champion Nico Rosberg on social media, then you probably know that he’s extremely passionate about electric vehicles.

In one of his previous videos, he promised that he would race a Porsche 911 GT2 RS against the all-electric Energica motorcycle, but with logistics being an issue, he instead went with a dual-motor Tesla Model 3 Performance, which he felt could match the Porsche in acceleration.

On paper, despite the top-spec Model 3’s ultra-impressive 0-60 mph time of just 3.3 seconds, the GT2 RS is technically capable of hitting 100 km/h (62 mph) in 2.8 seconds, which basically means it should be noticeably quicker off the line than its all-electric opponent.

In reality though, Rosberg couldn’t keep up with the Tesla’s savage acceleration, which we’re sure wasn’t his fault. Unless you get off to a perfect start (perfect grip, perfect tires etc), there’s very little you can do against a four-wheel drive car with instant torque and sufficient power so as to keep you at bay.

During this run, the Model 3 managed to hit 100 km/h in 3.2 seconds, whereas the Porsche could only manage it in 3.3 seconds. Also, to Rosberg’s surprise, the Tesla kept pulling away up until the very end – apparently he was expecting the GT2 RS to reel in the American sedan after the initial jump off the line.

Still, we’d like to see these two on a track, as we have a sneaking suspicion that the hardcore 911 would turn the tables on the Tesla despite its acceleration deficit.
