Hold joint polls in J&K: Cong, NC & PDP to EC
TNN & Agencies | Mar 5, 2019, 07:14 ISTSRINAGAR: Nearly all mainstream political parties in Jammu & Kashmir on Monday urged a visiting high-level delegation of the Election Commission to conduct assembly elections simultaneously with the Lok Sabha polls in 2019.
The delegation, led by chief election commissioner (CEC) Sunil Arora, arrived in Srinagar on Monday on a two-day J&K visit for consultations with various political parties, state administration officials and other stakeholders.
Delegations of National Conference (NC), Peoples Democratic Party, the state Congress unit and other smaller parties met the CEC. “We impressed upon the EC that there is no reason why the polls cannot be held simultaneously. Not doing so will send wrong signals to people within and outside the state,” NC leader Nasir Aslam Wani, who was part of his party’s delegation, said.
