Vadodara: M S University’s Faculty of Science on Tuesday agreed to change its examination pattern after a students’ group sat on a hunger strike at the faculty premises.
The students’ group led by faculty general secretary Nitinsinh Barad had started a hunger strike on Tuesday morning demanding that the faculty should address the long-pending demand of the students to bring in a change in the examination pattern of ATKT students of masters of science (MSc).
“Our faculty students were facing problems due to odd-even examination system at MSc level. In this examination system, the students who have received ATKT in an odd-semester can appear for the ATKT examination only in another odd-semester and not the immediate examination,” said Barad.
“Similarly, those students, who had received their ATKT in an even semester were allowed to sit in trial only in even semester. For instance, a student, who had received ATKT in second semester, could appear in trial only when he or she enters the fourth semester,” he said.
After the students’ group sat on a hunger strike, syndicate members and university officials rushed to the faculty to convince them to wind up their protest but the students did not relent. Eventually, faculty dean professor Hari Kataria agreed to the demand made by students and announced that the odd-even examination system will be abolished.
“Now, students of MSc can give ATKT trials in the very next semester,” said Barad.
