Surat: A 36-year-old man was convicted for raping his 13-year-old stepdaughter and sentenced to life imprisonment till death by a local court on Tuesday.
The convict, a resident of Kapodra, also made videos on mobile phone and thrashed the minor with a belt whenever she resisted him.

The man, working as manager in a textile weaving unit, was convicted for raping his stepdaughter multiple times for six months till she informed her mother in June 2015.

The girl’s mother lodged a complaint on June 5 and he was immediately arrested by police.

“The court took into consideration scientific evidence and arguments by prosecution about the horrific crime committed by the man. I argued in the court that he not only raped the minor daily, but had also made videos and used to thrash her with a belt. The convict has been sentenced to life imprisonment till death,” said Dipesh Dave, assistant public prosecutor.

The rape survivor was terrified because of thrashing and threats issued by the convict, a drunkard, to her.

The crime came to light when the girl’s mother checked the convict’s mobile phone one day. She found videos of her daughter being raped by the convict.

The woman later asked her daughter if it was true and then lodged the police complaint. The rape survivor told the police that the convict used to rape her whenever her mother went out for work. The rape survivor has completed studies up to class VIII.

“It is good to see that police investigation in the matter has brought a criminal to justice. Strict punishment in such offences will definitely set an example for people,” said B K Vanaar, the then police inspector of Kapodra police station.
