Andhra Pradesh: Born visually-impaired, 27-year-old MIT grad to join politics

HYDERABAD: A visually-impaired tech-entrepreneur from Machilipatnam who graduated from Massachusetts Institute of Technology(MIT) will make a foray into politics. Srikanth Bolla is expected to join the YSRCP soon.
Srikanth Bolla who is the founder-CEO of Bollant Industries Pvt Ltd, was born visually-impaired in a family of agricultural labourers in Andhra Pradesh.
He was also the first visually-impaired student to study science at the Intermediate level in India. He is also the first visually-impaired international student to get admission in to Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT).
Refusing a lucrative job offer from General Electric (GE) in the US, he returned to India to work towards improving the lives to other people with disabilities.
The Hyderabad-based Bollant industries of which he is founder-CEO produces eco-friendly disposable products and packaging solutions made out of the natural leaf and recycled paper. Almost 70 per cent of the employees are differently abled.
When as a class 9 student, he met the then president A P J Abdul Kalam, he posed a question to the gathering of students asking what they wanted to become, Srikanth answered that he wanted to become the first visually challenged President of India. Kalam appreciated him for his vision and ambition.
Srikanth Bolla is also a national chess player and blind cricket player at the national level.
Srikanth Bolla was denied admission into IITs because of his disability but determined as he was, he secured admission into one of the prestigious institutes of world – MIT.
According to YSRCP, Srikanth Bolla is expected to join the party within the new few days.
