Mr Ravneet Singh Bittu, MP, Ludhiana.
SAYS FORCED TO TAKE ACTION AS THE COMPANY HAS FAILED TO COMPLETE THE PROJECT ON TIME
Ludhiana, March 4, 2019: Due to the failure on part of the company in completing the National Highway project on time, Ludhiana MP Mr Ravneet Singh Bittu, along with his supporters, would be shutting down the operations of the Ladhowal Toll Plaza on March 8. Mr Bittu said that that the company is not taking the matter related to the completion of incomplete flyovers within the Ludhiana city seriously and that is why he is forced to take this step in public interest.
Few days ago, the Ludhiana MP had sent a letter to Union Minister Mr Nitin Gadkari demanding that the incomplete portion of the six-laning of National Highway project be completed in time. “Sadly, the Union Minister, the National Highways Authority of India or the contractor/company failed to take necessary steps in this regard. That is why, we are forced to take this step and would shut down the operations of the Ladhowal Toll Plaza till the time the work on incomplete flyovers starts,” said Bittu in a statement issued here today.
It is pertinent to mention that the construction work on flyovers in Ludhiana city, namely Sherpur Chowk, Cancer Hospital Chowk, Tajpur Road and Basti Jodhwal Chowk has been halted for several months, which is not only causing traffic congestion in the area, but has also led to several accidents.
Mr Bittu said that Ladhowal Toll Plaza rates are one of the highest in the country, and the residents would not allow the company to go ahead with collection till the time the construction work of incomplete flyovers starts. “People pay toll tax expecting smooth travel on the road. Despite several letters to the Union Minister, NHAI and the company/contractor, the project stands incomplete in the city. So till the time the work on incomplete flyovers starts, we would not let Ladhowal Toll Plaza to operate,” announced MP Mr Bittu.
