Mumbai: Vishal Vaya signed off his arrival on a high, at the CCI All India Open Snooker Championship, with a plum break of 60, as he ran over Shubham Randhe 3-0 on the opening day of the championship, here on Monday. The cueist from Aquaria Club, Borivali made most of the set backs of his rival as to break rhythm to pull off a comfortable 93-31, 84-0, 61-47, at the CCI’s Sir Wilson Jones Billiards room table.
“I made the most of it as and when my opponent made mistakes,” said Vishal while talking to Free Press Journal after his quick fire 3-0 win to move ahead in this championship, which ahs at stake Rs 12.9 lakh prize money.
Hosts’ Sangeeta Hemchand, one of the three ladies participating in the tournament, put up quite a fight against Kaizad Fitter of Bombay Gymkhana, but going down in straight frames in her first round match. Fitter fought hard and managed to overcome the spirited challenge from Sangeeta pulling through at 64-26, 48-21 and 66-61 frame scores. Nikhil Ghadge of Western Railway SA also progressed with a 3-1 (46-59, 62-3, 67-27, 79-27) win over Ritesh Mendiratta of Bhopal.
