Chennai Corporation budget 2019-20: Civic body to focus on infrastructure development

CHENNAI: Greater Chennai Corporation commissioner G Prakash on Monday a presented a Rs 46crore deficit budget of the civic body for the financial year 2019-20. The corporation has proposed an income of Rs 5,697 crore and an expenditure of Rs 5,743 crore.
Last year’s revised income receipts were to the tune of Rs 5,530 crore while expenditure was Rs 5,706 crore.
The corporation commissioner told TOI that despite the deficit the corporation’s financial position would be better as the civic body has got Rs 500 crore from the state government under the Chennai Mega City Development mission and Rs 100 crore under Tamil Nadu Road Infrastructure Programme.
“Infrastructure boost will be a major focus area in the coming financial year. Apart from that, projects under Smart City, Swachh Bharat Mission and World Bank funding will continue,” he said.
Deputy commissioner, works, M Govinda Rao said Rs 425crore Nirbhaya fund from the central government would make the city safer for women and children.
