Airline fails to pay lease rentals

Jet Airways on Monday informed the stock exchanges that two more aircraft were grounded due to non-payment of lease rentals to lessors.

25 aircraft since Feb. 7

Including these two, a total of 25 aircraft have been grounded by lessors since February 7, 2019.

While four aircraft were grounded on February 7, two were grounded on February 23. On February 27, seven aircraft were grounded and the very next day six planes were grounded.

On March 1 and 2, two aircraft each were grounded.

With this, almost one fourth of Jet Airways’ fleet remains grounded as the airline awaits recapitalisation.

The grounding of so many planes has caused flight disruptions and inconvenienced passengers.

Jet Airways said it was rebooking passengers or intimating them well in advance to partly mitigate their woes.

The situation remains fluid in the absence of a firm commitment by lenders to bail out the airline from the current mess.
