TIRUPUR: A 40-year-old garment worker was electrocuted when he tried to check electricity meter at his house in Tirupur city on Sunday.
The deceased - identified as S Chandran alias Raja of Ukkilipalayam near Nallaathupalayam - was working in a nearby knitwear unit, said a police officer.
As there was electricity cut at his house, Chandran tried to check with the electricity meter on Sunday morning. It seemed that he didn't realise a metal box, which contained the meter, was conducting electricity, because live wire was touching it. He received electrical shock and was thrown away, said the officer.
Neighbours rushed him to Tirupur government hospital, but he was declared brought dead. Anupparpalayam police registered the case.
