Rahul Gandhi, Smriti Irani spar over rifle factory in Amethi

NEW DELHI: Congress president Rahul Gandhi on Monday hit out at Prime Minister Narendra Modi and accused him of "lying" again over the rifle factory in Amethi, Uttar Pradesh.
The Congress president said that he had laid the foundation of the ordnance factory of Amethi in 2010 and that it has been running for the last few years and producing small arms.
PM Modi on Sunday inaugurated a manufacturing unit for AK-203 rifles + , an India-Russia joint venture in Amethi, the Lok Sabha constituency of Congress chief.
The Congress chief in a tweet said:
Responding to Rahul Gandhi's tweet, Union minister Smriti Irani said that the Congress chief was afraid of the development taking place in Amethi.
Referring to Rahul Gandhi, Irani added that the Congress president did not check that it is a joint venture between India and Russia.
The Prime Minister, who announced development projects worth Rs 538 crore for the constituency, said Amethi will get a new identity now and be known by the new venture of AK-203 Kalashnikov rifles + which will be made at the Korba ordnance factory.
