Nine held during anti-opium raids in Khunti

RANCHI: Acting on tip off, Khunti police nabbed nine miscreants and seized 33.15kg of processed opium from their possession in separate raids conducted under Saiko and Murhu police station areas of the district. Police said the market value of seized material is around Rs 33 lakh.
In the first operation, five persons carrying 20.15kg of processed opium were nabbed during a raid at a forest between Ruitoli and Baridih villages under Saiko police station on the intervening night of Saturday and Sunday.
“We caught the accused — Dinay Munda, Kunwar Munda, Krishna Mundu, Motai Mundu and Lakhiram Pradhan — red-handed while they were ferrying them towards Ranchi,” Khunti SP Alok said on Sunday.
In another operation, police arrested four people and seized 13kg of opium from Murhu police station area early on Saturday morning. The SP said police were tipped off about some people coming to Sadigaon village with a large quantity of opium to take it to Ranchi via Murhu-Khunti Road.
The four accused are Jivan Odhiya, Premchand Purti, Soma Swansi and Sahdeo Swansi. Police have registered case all the acused under relevant sections of NDPS act.
