24-year-old victim who sustained two bullet injuries in head is said to be critical

A 24-year-old man was shot at by his neighbour for allegedly making noise while partying on the terrace of an apartment in Vasant Kunj on Saturday, the police said on Sunday.

Victim Mohit Chabra is now battling for his life in the ICU of Fortis Hospital in Vasant Kunj.

PCR call at midnight

The police said they received a PCR call from Krishna Green apartment in Vasant Kunj at 12 a.m. stating that a man was shot at by his 32-year-old neighbour. On reaching the spot, the police were informed that the victim has been taken to the hospital by his family members. The accused was then nabbed from his third-floor flat and brought to Vasant Kunj police station.

“Neeraj, who stays on the third floor with his wife and children, has been arrested under Indian Penal Code Section 307 [attempt to murder] and Arms Act. The pistol, used in the crime, was procured illegally and has been recovered,” said Deputy Commissioner of Police (South-West) Devendra Arya.

Mr. Arya said during investigation they found that Mohit, who stays on the first floor of the building, was partying on the terrace with three friends. On getting disturbed by the noise, Neeraj’s wife went to the terrace and asked them to stop the party, the police said.

Argument turns violent

An argument ensued between the two parties following which, Neeraj reached the terrace. The argument turned violent when Neeraj went down and came back with a pistol and fired two rounds at Mohit, the police added.

“Mohit suffered two bullet injuries on his head and collapsed on the spot. His house help, also present there, rushed downstairs to inform his family. The accused then locked himself in his flat while Mohit was rushed to a hospital,” said Mr. Arya.

Mohit, owns a gym, while Neeraj deals with mobiles and also owns several properties.

The apartment owners claimed that Neeraj used to brandish his pistol and often fired shots in the locality, the police added.
