25-year-old Giaspura woman arrested for killing daughter
TNN | Mar 4, 2019, 07:07 ISTLudhiana: The police on Sunday arrested a 25-year-old woman on the charge of killing her year-old daughter in Jeevan Nagar.
Police said Sunita, a resident of Laxman Nagar in Giaspura, has confessed to have gagged her daughter, Khushi, to death to frame her husband.
Sunita had tied the knot with Guddu, 27, a labourer, in 2016. “Their relationship turned sour six months after the marriage. After the two parted ways, Sunita started living with her parents in Laxman Nagar of Giaspura and Guddu in a rented accommodation in Jeevan Nagar. The two refused to come together even after the birth of their daughter,” said Jeevan Nagar police post in-charge ASI Daljeet Singh.
Guddu suspected Sunita of having extra-marital affair. “He doubted Khushi was his daughter. And Sunita, too, wanted to get separated from him and marry someone else. With the intervention of the area residents, including Jeevan Nagar society president, Sunita along with her daughter returned to Guddu’s house on Saturday evening,” he added.
Unwilling to stay with Guddu, she hatched a plan to get rid of him and start life afresh. “Early on Sunday, when everybody was sleeping, Sunita gagged Khushi to death with a pillow. Then around 3pm, she woke up her husband, saying their daughter was not responding,” the ASI said.
On hearing their cries, neighbours rushed to their house. The girl was taken to a nearby hospital, where doctors declared her brought dead.
“When the area residents asked the couple about the incident, Sunita’s version made them doubt her. During police questioning, Sunita broke down and confessed to have committed the crime. She admitted that she wanted to put the murder blame on her husband to send him behind bars and out of her life,” the ASI added.
Following the confession, Sunita was arrested under Section 302 (murder) of the IPC.
