Remand prisoner tries to kill himself
TNN | Mar 5, 2019, 04:17 ISTCoimbatore: A 35-year-old remand prisoner attempted to commit suicide in the Coimbatore Central Prison on Monday.
Arunkumar of Thudiyalur, who was arrested in connection with a murder case in January, slit his throat using a razor, police sources said. Prison warders, who noticed the incident, rushed him to the Coimbatore Medical College and Hospital (CMCH). His condition is stable.
After lodged in the prison, Arunkumar was not mingling with other inmates, a prison official said. “His wife often visited him. But she was not able to raise enough money to secure conditional bail for him. He was depressed over it,” an official said. Arunkumar will be given counselling after he is discharged from CMCH, prison DIG Arivudainambi told TOI. TNN
