BENGALURU: A 10-member group vandalized Plaza Bakery in Madiwala on Saturday after its owners allegedly uploaded posts supporting Pakistan Army on social media.
Madiwala police have registered a suo motu case against Muneer and his younger brother Abdul Saleem for allegedly uploading a picture of a man in Pakistan Army uniform with a caption, “I stand with Pakistan Army” and a case of rioting against 10 unidentified members that ransacked the shop on 4th Main Link Road, Madiwala Extension.

The door, showcase and signboard of the bakery were completely damaged. Muneer and Saleem are from Kollam in Kerala.

The group targeted the outlet around 1pm. While the owners were in their native place at the time of the attack, the employees managed to flee the spot.

“Nataraj DN, a sub-inspector attached with Madiwala police station, has filed a complaint against the brothers for allegedly provoking the public. Police have registered a case under IPC sections 124a (sedition), criminal intimidation (507) and 153a (promote enmity on grounds of religion) against them,” an officer said.

The same post had led to a mob attack on the brothers’ residence in Kollam on Saturday, police said. “Kollam police had picked them up for questioning. We’ll send a team to Kollam to grill the duo,” they added.

The case of rioting was registered based on a complaint filed by Arasappa VN, owner of the building where the bakery is located.

Arasappa told police that he heard a huge commotion and found 10 persons armed with iron rods and hammers ransacking the bakery. “Arasappa tried to stop them saying the building was his and he had given it for rent,” police said.
