As a part of its beautification plan, Tiruchi Corporation has installed a musical fountain near Kamaraj statue at Chathiram Bus Stand.

This is said to be the first musical fountain set up by the Corporation in the city in the recent past.

Corporation Commissioner N. Ravichandran commissioned the fountain at a function on Saturday.

The two-deck fountain, installed at an estimated cost of ₹13.50 lakh, is one of the advanced dancing fountains based on multimedia technology providing high versatility in programming.

The fountain changes colour every five seconds. The underwater lights illuminate it in almost all colours, instantly attracting passengers and passersby.

The multi-colour fountain has added beauty to the location, particularly in the night.

Several passengers, who come to Chathiran Bus Stand, invariably spend a few minutes enjoying the beauty of the dancing fountain. The different hues, especially, attract children.

Mr. Ravichandran said the fountain was set up with a view to enhancing the beauty of the city. Arrangements had been made to provide continuous water supply to the fountain. It would mainly operated between 6 p.m. and 10 p.m.

There were plans to instal four more fountains in different parts of the city: traffic island on Madras Trunk Road in Thiruvanaikoil; traffic roundabout on Bharathidasan Road and Wiliams Road junction; traffic island at Central Bus Stand near Sangeetha Hotel; and MGR Statue Roundabout on Lawsons Road. A sum of ₹1.50 crore had been sanctioned for installing them. The fountains coming up at Central Bus Stand and MGR Statue Roundabout, would cost ₹47 lakh each.

Mr. Ravichandran said the work of installing a fountain on Madras Trunk Road had been completed. It would be commissioned on Monday. Other fountains would be completed within 20 days.
