Minister for Labour and district in-charge Venkataramanappa has said the Davangere – Bengaluru road in Chitradurga will be widened by spending ₹19 crore.

Speaking after launching the road works at Challakere gate here on Monday, he said that the funds were released long ago, but the work was not started owing to various technical reasons.

Now, all the problems have been sorted out and work will commence immediately and it would be completed in the next three months. There are plans to construct footpaths of 2m on either side of the road.

“It has been observed that traffic is inconvenienced owing to mines lorries coming to petrol bunks. So the Deputy Commissioner should issue clear instructions to authorities concerned not to allow mines lorries to enter city limits, ” he added.

The road will be widened from Challakere gate to Mahaveer Circle. In the next phase, the road from Mahaveer Circle to Malappanahatti will be developed by spending ₹18 crore. Since it would be inevitable to remove some portions of the shops, the issue has already been discussed with the owners of the shops and they have agreed to co-operate with the authorities concerned in widening the road, G.H. Thippareddy, MLA, added.
