Bhopal: Clamour against ‘retrogressive’ decision gains strength

BHOPAL: Kolar residents have started raising their voice against “retrogressive” decision of making Kolar a separate municipal entity. The locals believe that taking out Kolar region from Municipal corporation and making it a separate municipality is like taking one step forward and two backward.

Residents of various colonies have started galvanizing undercurrents against proposed the Kolar Municipality. Mandakini Colony residents called a meeting to chalk out future course of action. It’s an injustice to the residents of Kolar as the area which is growing and developing fast will face a roadblock after it is brought under municipal council, said residents who have been objecting the administrative decision.

Some locals, including one in getup of Mahatma Gandhi, are staging a sit-in in the area demanding the government to take back the decision. A number of residents have approached local politicians to lend voice to their protest against retrogressive decision. The local public representatives too have assured to take their issues before the concerned authorities including Chief Minister.

“Though it is Congress government decision to create Kolar Municipality, I am with residents who are voicing their protest against the decision. I too believe that once Kolar Municipality has been merged with Bhopal Municipal Corporation so not taking a backstep is not justified. Decision should be progressive and forward looking. With BMC, Kolar will have more scope to grow and attract bigger project, which will not be the case it is brought under a municipality as will reduce its stature. We will fight for people. I will talk to Chief Minister Kamal Nath and covey him the view of public.”
Naresh Gyanchandan, Congress leader

“At local level, decision has been taken to mobilize residents to raise voice untidily against creation of Kolar Municipality. Residents too feel that remaining under Municipal Corporation will bring more benefits. The area though is facing water crisis, project to supply water through pipeline from Kerwa is underway. Kolar region does not get from Kolar dam so the entire area is still parched. Municipal corporation has brought mega project in this area. Municipality has its limitation bringing Kolar under municipal council will deprive area of big projects.”
Pawan Borana, BJP corporator
