KOLKATA: The Border Security Force has seized 1.5kg of snake venom powder from West Bengal's Malda district and arrested one person, a BSF officer said on Monday.

Acting on a tip-off, the BSF troopers conducted a joint raid with the forest department officials in Malda's Gazole area on Sunday night and intercepted one person with the consignment.

"A person named Mohammed Ismil (32) was arrested with 1.59kg of snake venom powder from near the Gazole toll tax area at around 8.50pm on Sunday. The powder was hidden in a glass jar inside his bag," a release issued by the BSF said.

"The apprehended person has been handed over to the Kaliachak forest range department along with the seized consignment for further legal action," it added.
