SER joins hand with Tata Steel for Jamshedpur on wheels
B Sridhar | TNN | Mar 4, 2019, 05:40 ISTJamshedpur: People taking the Steel Superfast Express to travel between Tatanagar and Howrah stations will soon get a peek into the history of the Steel City. Tata Steel on Friday announced that it will deck up the train and provide travellers with nuggets of information on Jamshedpur as part of the centenary celebrations of the city. The CSR activities of Tata Steel will also be highlighted. The global steel major has inked an agreement with South Eastern Railway (SER) in this regard.
“The idea is to tell as many people as possible the story of the evolution of Jamshedpur from a small town to a famous city,” said Chanakya Chaudhary, VP, corporate services, Tata Steel.
The coaches will bear photographs of personalities who contributed to the development of the city. The state-of-the-art train has one executive AC chair car, three AC chair cars and 15 ordinary coaches, a pantry and two luggage coaches. Over 3,000 passengers take the train every day.
“As per the agreement, TATA Steel will handle the on-board promotions for a year,” a railway official in the Chakradharpur division said.
H K Balmuchu, director of the Tatanagar railway station, however, said station officials still do not know when the plan will come into effect.
