Kerala is all set to get its own 'Urban Clap' within a month. The unnamed smartphone application, an initiative of the Kerala government, has been readied as a platform for different kinds of service providers and for people looking for such services.

Sources said that the idea to develop the smartphone app was conceived two years ago and a lot of thought has been put into it to make it useful, user-friendly, and free from glitches.

Service providers such as masons, plumbers, electricians, and drivers will be available on the app and seekers or customers will be enabled to register on it. Service providers from different industrial training institutes can also get themselves certified for better authentication. People can avail of these services, based on their requirement, by downloading the app on their phones.

Chandrasekar S, the IAS officer and MD of Kerala Academy for Skills Excellence (KASE), which is the nodal agency for implementing developmental skills, said initiatives like this one are being made to eradicate the 7.4 per cent unemployment in the state. He said that users would be benefitted through this app. "This will be free of charge and unlike other apps, there will be a system to monitor service providers," he further added.

Sources said that if one didn't know the prevailing rates of a particular service, the person can get help through the app to avoid being fleeced. An inspecting team will find out the price range of a service provided in certain cases.
