NEW DELHI: A 25-year-old puncture repair man was crushed to death when a speeding sedan rammed a stationary car on Ring Road at south Delhi's Moolchand underpass in a late night crash on Sunday that also left two others injured.
A woman driving the sedan fled the spot but was later arrested. The victim, identified as Mohammad Affak Malik, had just fixed a flat tyre on a Chevrolet Aveo that was parked on the side of the road with fog lights on, police said.

Eyewitnesses said the errant car, a Chevrolet Cruze, came at great speed and hit the Aveo from behind. The two women in the Cruze - Ananya Khurana, 21, who was driving, and her friend - left their car and escaped as people started gathering at the accident site.

Mechanic hit just after he finished fixing flat tyre

The two injured men, Nitish and Gaurav, were occupants of the Aveo, and are being treated at AIIMS, DCP (southeast) Chinmoy Biswal said. Khanna, the accused, is a resident of Lajpat Nagar and has been booked under IPC sections of dangerous driving and causing death due to negligence.

Preliminary probe revealed that the accident happened around 1.40am. The complainant, Rudra Ashish Pandey, told cops that he had gone to attend a wedding in Moti Bagh along with his friends, Nitish and Gaurav. The three were returning to their homes in Okhla in the Aveo when the car had a flat tyre near Moolchand underpass on the Ring Road. The trio parked the car at one side and started looking for a mechanic.

Pandey told the cops that they found Malik at a puncture repair shop near Ashram flyover and he agreed to fix the tyre. The put on the fog lights of the car as Malik set about his work.

Malik had just finished the job when the Cruze hit the car. Malik was mowed down and the other two also got hit. The three were rushed to the AIIMS trauma centre where Malik was declared brought dead. A case was registered at the Lajpat Nagar police station and both cars were seized for inspection. A crime team also visited the accident site and collected forensic evidence.

It is suspected that the car was being driven at over 100 kmph. The Cruze's airbags got deployed, preventing any injuries to the two women.
